Fairmont Hot Springs Top Choice in Columbia Valley- New Strategy Pays Off

Tuesday, 05 January 2010
January 5, 2010 – Fairmont Hot Springs, B.C. – Looking back at 2009, a year dominated by blow out sales, resort bankruptcies and industry carnage, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort (FHS) offers one of few success stories. Following a new sales strategy focusing on real recreational buyers, not investors and speculators, FHS launched its Mountainside Ridge home sites in June of last year with amenity based incentives including golf, ski and hot springs passes.

Highlighting existing amenities and its BC Rockies Adventures program, which includes interpretative hikes, snowshoe fondues, educational kids camps, dog sledding and many other outdoor mountain adventures, all led by professional naturalists, enabled FHS to target buyers not wanting to wait to enjoy all the perks of a recreational property ownership.

Targeting end user buyers resulted in the resort’s Mountainside Ridge neighbourhood outselling all other comparable products in the Columbia Valley. Based on sales statistics compiled by Fairmont Hot Spring Resort, the sales team at Mountainside Ridge sold the most home sites in the Columbia Valley.  With 11 home sites sold and $1.6 million in sales, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is the top choice for buyers in the Columbia Valley.

“Our analysis of the post credit crisis real estate market determined that our sales strategy should focus on families not investors,” Dan Oliver, resort sales specialist at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, says. “This year we made our home sites more attractive to resort end users and fortunately with three golf courses, the family ski hill and natural mineral hot springs all in operation, we have the facilities to do that.”

Buyers are able to take advantage of the privileges that come with purchasing in an established resort community. A voucher pack for 60 golf tee times, 60 ski lift tickets and 60 swim passes for the natural mineral hot springs was included with every home site. In addition, buyers were given five two-night stays at the lodge at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort so they can easily monitor the progress of their new vacation home. The package is valued at more than $10,000.

“Buyers in the market for a vacation home recognized the value of the package we are offering and were excited to build at an established resort,” Richard Haworth, vice president of real estate development at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, says. “They were able to see and use the amenities they were buying into and that inspired a lot of confidence in the purchase.”

Prices were also adjusted to make the home sites more accessible to families, with prices starting at $114,900 for 1/3-acre home sites.

Further solidifying the view that end users are the dominating force in the market, many home site owners are already submitting building plans for approval despite a flexible construction schedule allowing owners to break ground up to five years after purchase.

Sales statistics were compiled through a comprehensive market analysis of sales and listings for home sites building in the Columbia Valley - Radium to Canal Flats. This area encompasses 65 km made up of six communities with approximately 7,000 permanent residents. The statistical period covers the prime selling season from June to October 2009.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort offers 45 holes of golf with Mountainside, an 18-hole par 72 CPGA, the stunning 18-hole Riverside golf course set on the majestic Columbia River with the rugged Rocky Mountains as its backdrop and Creekside, a par 3, 9-hole golf course.
