Full steam ahead: First phase released

Of all the places to escape for fun and recreation, many Calgarians would likely rate the Columbia Valley as one of the top favourites --and no wonder.

It has everything from sun and warm weather to golf, skiing, natural hot pools and beautiful mountain scenery.

Plus, it's just a three-hour drive from Calgary. It doesn't get much better.

That's why the announcement of the $1-billion redevelopment of the Fairmont Hot Springs resort by Ontario-based Ken Fowler Enterprises has been much anticipated.

A limited quantity of homesites in one of the first phases of redevelopment, Mountainside Ridge, have now been released.

The 0.1-hectare sites have mountainside views of the Rockies and a flexible construction schedule that gives buyers up to seven years after making their purchase to build.

While the design guidelines are flexible, they will ensure value as well as preserve the natural integrity of Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, protecting buyers' investments. The guidelines highlight Columbia Valley architectural designs that have a contemporary flair, says Richard Haworth, vice-president of development of the resort.

Lots are priced from $114,900 and a value-added package is given to each new purchaser that ensures recreation is at their fingertips year-round right from the moment of purchase.

This package, valued at $10,000, includes 60 tee times, 60 lift tickets and 60 passes for the natural mineral hot springs.

Homebuyers will also be given five two-night stays at the lodge at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, so they can immediately enjoy the four-season resort while they wait for their home to be ready to move in.

"We want to offer great prices on homesites and pack as much value into our offerings as we can--and we're fortunate to have an established resort community that makes that possible," says Haworth.
