You be the judge at East Kootenay Wine Festival

You be the judge at East Kootenay Wine Festival

You don't have to go all the way to the Okanagan to sample a variety of wonderful B.C. wines. Fairmont Hot Springs Resort --just a three-hour drive from Calgary in the Columbia Valley--is bringing the wines to you. Better yet, guests of the lodge get to be in the judges' seat at the East Kootenay Wine Festival.

In its eighth year, the festival has expanded to showcase 27 wineries, including Mission Hill, Inniskillin, Sumac Ridge Estates and Red Rooster. Before tasting and judging, guests will get a little education in wine tasting before doing their own blind taste tests of red, white, rose and dessert wines.

Packages are available for Nov. 6 to 7 for $390 a couple. That includes two nights accommodation for two in a standard room, admission to the festival and a wine-paired gourmet dinner in the Mountain Flowers Dining Room on Nov. 6. Wine tasting and judging will happen from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the lodge.

The cost of the Wine Festival itself is $35 per person, including wine and snacks. For details call 1-800-663-4979 or 250-345-6000.
