Osoyoos Year Round Vacation

By John Thomson

Osoyoos Town Council approved a plan to develop 4 stories, 153-suite beachside condominium resort on the west shore of Lake Osoyoos. Now officially named Watermark Beach Resort, the resort is expected to set a new and unparalleled standard for luxury developments in the South Okanagan, and to help make Osoyoos one of Canada’s premium year-round vacation destinations.

With almost 4 ½ acres of lake-front property, and direct beachfront access to Canada’s warmest lake, Watermark Beach Resort is situated along the perimeter of over 1000 ft. of the best sandy beach available in the entire Okanagan. Destined to become a key anchor for the town of Osoyoos, Watermark Beach Resort offers a wide array of luxury amenities (both public and private), including shops and boutiques, a restaurant, a health club & spa, and convention centre.

How many years did I travel down to Osoyoos over the years and wonder what would happen to that great piece of property? It was prefect and back then we weren’t even thinking about this new world we all live in today in the valley.

Built in 1925, the packinghouse was closed down in 1988, and later demolished in 2002. There were at least a couple of developers that had their eye on the property one even had made an agreement to belong to a U.S. hotel chain. I interviewed him twice.

The new developers, a group out of Vancouver has major plans for the site.

The 153-suite resort includes 5 town-home buildings with 6 units per building (total of 30 units) on the site’s south side. As well, the resort will offer many public and private amenities, including retail storefronts along Main Street’s east downtown strip a luxury restaurant, health club & spa and a 150-200-seat convention centre.

Well known in the valley Mike Duggan’s hotel management company Boutique Hotels of BC will manage the new property.

This development group is also involved with Steve Henderson and his partners for a residential project at Goat’s Peak on the lake just down from the interchange in Westbank.
