One-day sales mark set in Naramata

NARAMATA -- A single-day record was set on the weekend, as sales opened for a new housing development overlooking the orchards and vineyards of Naramata.

The Benchlands, Naramata announced Monday it sold $3.1 million of estate view homesites. Nine lots, ranging in size from half-an-acre to two acres, were sold with 65 per cent of buyers hailing from Alberta. It set a single-day sales record for single-family homesites in Naramata.

Buyers preferred the higher-end estate view properties as three of the four premium-priced homesites were purchased.

"The single-day sales record didn't surprise us because it has been awhile since this many homesites were available on one day," said Robin Agur, a partner in The Benchlands project. "But the interest in the premium-priced homesites did.

"We had a hunch that creating expansive homesites where one could build a luxurious retreat or estate home surrounded by parks, wildlife reserves and vineyards would be appealing, and these initial sales confirms what we thought."

Partner Randy Kowalchuk, a former Albertan, added sales to residents of that province reflect the continuing love affair they have with the Okanagan.

"I think the allure of a life amid the vineyards and orchards of Naramata, is pretty powerful to Albertans," he said.

Homesites are located in the development's StoneBrook area. Its debut offering involved 34 of the 44 available homesites straddling the former KVR right-of-way near Arawana Road. Future neighbourhoods within the development will be introduced gradually.

The Benchlands, Naramata, is being developed by Naramata Benchland Properties, a partnership between Locations West Investment Group and George Melville and Jim Treliving.

They are now selling the remaining homesites in the Stonebrook neighbourhood and tours are available.
