Invermere Valley Echo, December 19, 2007 KFE acquires Riverside Resort Last Thursday a deal was finalized between Ken Fowler Enterprises (KFE) and Don Seable over the acquisition of Riverside Golf Course, including the 18-hole course, clubhouse and 1,000 acres of developable land. “The acquisition of Riverside Golf Resort is part of Ken Fowler Enterprises' plan to create more of a good thing at Fairmont Hot Springs,” said Richard Haworth, VP of development. “All of us are quite happy that it’s all wrapped up.” With the purchase of Riverside, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is now 3,000 acres, with KFE owning 2,500 and the 500 acres of the ski hill terrain under a license of occupation lease from the provincial government. Haworth explained that the Riverside land deal was something that KFE saw as an integral component of unifying the resort, as well being able to reflect the entire land area in the master plan. “Riverside Golf Course and the associated development lands are seen as an integral part of Fairmont and need to be part of a single planned vision for the community,” said Haworth. “Part of this master planning process is to review and evaluate every aspect of the resort, including Riverside Golf Course. “It is our intent to make Fairmont a great golf destination.” Seable will continue to maintain office space at Riverside, as well as Phases 4, 5, and 6 of Riverside. “Don’s keeping things that he has under development right now,” noted Haworth, adding that Riverside will continue to run as it has in the past and they plan to retain any returning staff. KFE is in the midst of starting a $1 billion expansion of the resort. The resort is currently preparing a master plan, which includes an expansion of the natural hot springs, enhanced spa and wellness centre and a new resort/retail village. The proposed new village centre will feature expanded dining and shopping with 100,000 square feet of commercial space. A study regarding expansion and improvement to the existing championship golf courses and ski hill are currently underway. The development of an additional 1,500 acres will accommodate a variety of housing options, including single family estate homes, townhomes and hotel condominiums.
