Fairmont Hot Springs Acquires Riverside: Plans $1B Expansion Ken Fowler Enterprises (KFE), new owner of Fairmont Hot Springs (FHS), acquired the Riverside Golf Resort. The acquisition includes the Riverside golf course, an 18-hole championship course, clubhouse, and 1,000 acres of developable land. KFE is creating a master plan for the $1 billion expansion of Fairmont Hot Springs and it will include Riverside into its review and evaluation of the 3,000-acre resort. “The acquisition of Riverside Golf Resort is part of Ken Fowler Enterprises’ plan to create more of a good thing at Fairmont Hot Springs,” says Richard Haworth, VP development, Fairmont Hot Springs. “Riverside is an integral component of unifying Fairmont Hot Springs and the master plan will now reflect the entire land area.” The master plan will include an expansion of the natural hot springs, an enhanced spa and wellness centre with newly designed hot springs pools, and a new resort/retail village with luxury hotel condominiums. Blessed with stunning views and the largest therapeutic mineral hot springs in Canada, the revitalized Fairmont Hot Springs will feature an outdoor event plaza and walking trails linking the entire community. The Riverside Golf Resort was acquired from Riverside Golf Estates, owned by Don and Carol Seable. Don’s original vision helped to establish Fairmont Hot Springs as one of Canada’s finest golf communities. In 1998, Riverside golf course was awarded “Canada’s Golf Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association. “When we met Ken Fowler and his team, we were so impressed with his sense of integrity, ambition and vision for the future of the community of Fairmont Hot Springs,” says Don Seable, president, Riverside Golf Estates. “We felt that he was the only person to carry out the dream my wife Carol and I shared with Lloyd Wilder, the original founder of Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.” The Seables’ love for Riverside, their staff, guests and members was often cited in public and private. The Seable family extends its recognition and appreciation to all of the Riverside staff, past and present, for their contributions in making Riverside what it is. Don states: “We know that Ken Fowler wants the entire community of Fairmont Hot Springs to benefit from the planning and investment that he and others will contribute.” “The decision to sell a project we spent 20 years carving out of nothing was incredibly difficult. We would not have considered any offer if it did not unite Riverside with Fairmont Hot Springs.” FHS is also commissioning a study on ski hill expansion and evaluating enhancement for the existing championship golf courses. The new master plan will provide details on the time line for completion of new single family home sites, town homes, condos and hotel rooms and the quantities available.
