Auction includes Tiger Woods' autograph

By Marty Hope

Got a sports nut in the family looking for some hot autographed jerseys?

How about a painting to add to your growing collection?

If so, you might just want to spend a few bucks at an upcoming auction, which is part of the annual Serenade Gala for Charity in support of the North Okanagan Neurological Association.

The event is being hosted by The Rise, a resort community built on a hillside overlooking Okanagan Lake just outside the city of Vernon.

The gala and auction will take place Aug. 23.

A wide variety of items have been offered for auction, including works of art from local artists Doug Alcock and Patricia Lawton.

Bidders will find everything from luxury all-weather patio furniture from Beachcomber Home Leisure Ltd., to must-have sports memorabilia, including an autographed photo of Tiger Woods and autographed jerseys from NHL stars Wayne Gretzky, Trevor Linden and Sidney Crosby.

The Golf Club at The Rise is also contributing to the list with a round for four on the Fred Couples Signature Golf Course, a nine-hole golf lesson, and a chef-catered dinner for four at the Golf Club.

In June, Couples officially opened the 18-hole track with his Freddie and Friends charity tournament that included notable athletes including Calgary Flames' captain Jarome Iginla.

The Cellars at The Rise, the development's own on-site winery, is donating three bottles of rare ice wine valued at $90 per bottle.

"The business community in Vernon and the surrounding area has really rallied around this cause and are contributing to make this year's gala the most successful one yet," says Leona Snider, president and CEO of The Rise, in a news release.

Along with auction items, other businesses have also sponsored the event itself, contributing to the food and entertainment for the evening.

For more than 33 years, the North Okanagan Neurological Association has been providing specialized programs such as music and physio-occupational therapy to more than 400 children per year.

Its mission is to strengthen the abilities of children with special needs and enhance opportunities for them to participate in their community.

The event is being held in the exclusive Watermark neighbourhood of the The Rise.

It will begin with a champagne reception at 5 p.m., followed by a three-course dinner accompanied by a selection of fine wines.

The live and silent auctions will then be held, followed by live entertainment.

For more information about the association, visit www.nona-cdc.com.

Tickets for the black-tie gala are $199, including tax. Tickets and opportunities to contribute auction items are available by contacting Karen Beaubier at (250) 542-5111 or 1-866-400-8488.

The site for the charity event, The Rise, has a wide variety of homesite options available.

Clearview -- the first neighbourhood to be released -- is now sold out, but four model homes are available for purchase.

Homesites are still available in the neighbourhood of Sagecroft, which boasts lake views and backs onto a nature preserve.

The exclusive and secluded neighbourhood of Watermark with its infinity edge to Okanagan Lake also has a few home sites still available.

The vineyard neighbourhood of Belago has just been released and is the last phase of single-family home sites on the south-facing slope of the hillside.

Belago features large backyards with room for a pool, along with stunning lake views and a chance to live among the vines.

The Rise is on 294 hectares of hillside property located less than four kilometres west of Vernon, B.C.
