Golf courses ready to tee off By John Korobanik Tuesday's snowfall was a reminder that we may not have seen the last of winter, but it wasn't enough to stop a number of area golf courses from opening their door for hordes of eager players. A random sampling showed Twin Willows and Sandpiper clubs are now open and Raven Crest will join them Friday morning. Fort-in-View hopes to get opened this weekend for walking only. Twin Willows opened its back nine holes last weekend and will open the front nine either today or Friday. The Ranch has set April 22 as opening date and The Legends is looking at April 23. Numerous driving ranges are also open, including St. Albert Trail, Victoria, Fort-in-View, Raven Crest and Mill Woods. Jagare Ridge will open its range on the weekend. While it's still quite wet and a little cool in Edmonton, it's warm and green in the Windermere Valley of eastern B.C., where Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is offering free golf. From April 19-23 and April 26-30, players can stay at the resort lodge for $89 per person (based on double occupancy) and golf for free at any one of their three golf courses -- Riverside, Mountainside, or the par-3 Creekside (nine holes). "This is a great opportunity to experience the B.C. Rockies with 45 holes of free golf on your doorstep," said Harrison McKay, the resort marketing manager. "Our courses are in wonderful shape and our natural mineral hot springs and spa can make sure you stay in great shape after your round of golf." The stay includes accommodation, access to the pools, steam room and sauna, and one round of golf for every night booked.
