Sometimes, you don’t have to go very far to find what you’ve been looking for.

That is certainly the case for golfers seeking an exciting golf destination, with the Kootenay
Rockies of southeastern B.C. just a short drive across the Alberta border.

“A favourite place for Albertans to vacation year-round, the Kootenay Rockies is also becoming known as Canada’s top golfing
destination,” says Shannon Harrison, co-ordinator of partner and community programs for Kootenay Rockies Tourism.

The Kootenay Rockies region — which stretches from Christina Lake in the west to the Alberta border in the east, and from the U.S. border in the south to Revelstoke in the north — includes 26, 18-hole courses, 14 of them championship calibre, along with another
20, 9-hole or executive-style courses.

Chris Andrews, manager of partner and community programs for Kootenay Rockies Tourism, says the region’s mountain landscape is reflected in the
region’s golf courses.

Some courses are set on mountain slopes, such as the ultra-dramatic Greywolf at Panorama, while others — only a short drive away, such as Riverside at Fairmont — are located at valley bottom along the headwaters of the Columbia River. All benefit from the beautiful setting that provides something extra compared with many other golf destinations where the landscape is less varied.
